Greetings Dear Parents,
We welcome this New Year of faith development. We are here to help you lead your children in our Catholic Faith!
Remember, we are here to assist you in fulfilling your Baptismal promise for your child-to raise the child in the Catholic faith. And you as, "How do we do this together?" Our parent/Religious Education partnership begins the moment you register your child(ren)! That's the start.
Prayers-We introduce the prayers in the classroom, you and your child discuss the prayers at home. More importantly, you talk about the meaning of the prayers with your children and pray with them every night to help them learn their prayers by heart.
Attending Sunday Mass- we tell your children the importance of dressing appropriately to go to the house of God; the importance of being on their best behavior; and especially to listen to the words of God every Sunday. But listening is only the beginning. We and our children need to make a promise to follow the good news that we hear. Another way to help our family prepare for mass is to announce to all family members on Friday or Saturday which Mass you will be attending that weekend and what time you will leave the house to ensure arriving before Mass begins. An example would be to say: "everyone needs to be ready to go by such time." Informing our children ahead of time helps them to prepare. Remind them to dress up appropriately neat and clean ready to present themselves to God. We, parents, need to check the appropriateness of our clothing too! Let your children see how you listen to the words of God by discussing (after Mass) words that caught your attention when the words of God are preached. Ask them questions about the readings and the gospels, and you'll find out if they were really listening. Talk about the homily, "What did Father say?"
As your children are learning in the classrooms, we have set dates for your own faith development-Whole Community Catechesis (a faith building class for us parents.) This class is one Saturday a month (Check your calendars.) Parents whose children are preparing for the sacrament of First Reconciliation and First Communion have their attendance cards for their mandatory participation. Learning more about our faith is the key to help our children love what we Catholics believe in. Understanding our faith better will help us guide our children to become better people by making good decisions.
Yes, our faith is the most important part of our life and in our children's lives, so together we make time to pray and learn together.
Together in Christ,
